Roundy’s Acquires 11 Dominick’s Stores

Milwaukee-based Roundy’s Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 11 Dominick’s stores from Safeway Inc. for $36 million. The stores will be converted to the Mariano’s banner, Roundy’s growth banner, in the Chicago-metropolitan area. The company expects to close the transaction this month. There will be a transition period of approximately one to two months during which Roundy’s will take possession of the stores and convert them to its Mariano’s banner. Currently, Roundy’s operates 163 retail grocery stores and 101 pharmacies under the Pick ’n Save, Rainbow, Copps, Metro Market and Mariano’s retail banners in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.
