California contemporary brand Velvet recently made its bricks-and-mortar debut in Los Angeles, according to www.wwd.com. Located on San Vicente Boulevard in Brentwood, the 1,500-sq.-ft. store features a prototype design developed by Los Angeles-based architectural firm Johnston Marklee. The clean, minimalist space boasts a black-and-white color palette, plywood tables, and skylights and large windows that provide natural lighting. Merchandise is arranged by color on railings that run the length of an entire wall to create an ombré effect. On the other side of the store, mirrors reflect the merchandise. The retailer plans to open a second Los Angeles unit in August. The 1,250-sq.-ft. unit will be located on Abbot Kinney in Venice.
