• Jacques Panis, president of Detroit-based watch, bicycle and leather manufacturer Shinola, will deliver the WWD keynote presentation at GlobalShop at 8:30 a.m. on March 28 inside the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

    Produced in partnership with Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), the keynote will feature Panis remarking on “The American Experience,” followed by a Q&A with WWD Style Director Alex Badia.

    The WWD keynote will be a chance for GlobalShop attendees to hear about the experiences built in to Shinola’s stores that make it easier for consumers to appreciate the brand and its core values. “We want to give consumers a unique experience, whether they are buying from Shinola or not,” Panis told WWD. “It’s important that people understand the mission of the brand.

The Planning and Visual Education Partnership (PAVE) continues the tradition of celebrating student education at this year’s GlobalShop Opening Night Bash. Now in its third year, the PAVE Bash will kick off the opening night of the show on Tuesday, March 28 at Drai’s Nightclub at The Cromwell Boutique Hotel.   • Formerly known as the A.R.E. Design Awards and the POPAI OMA Awards, the two awards programs have merged this year (and also moved to the second night of the show) as The Shop! Awards Celebration. Taking place on Wednesday, March 29 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at LIGHT Nightclub, this awards event will celebrate winning entries for the Design Awards, OMAs and Global Awards.   • The GlobalShop Product Design Competition honors manufacturers and designers for advancements in innovation, function and aesthetics in product design for the retail industry. The annual competition, in conjunction with IIDA, is open to exhibitors at GlobalShop 2017. Deadline for submitting an entry is Monday, March 13.

    All winning products, manufacturers and designers will be featured on the IIDA website. In addition, all winners will be mentioned in the GlobalShop Daily.

  • The PAVE GlobalShop Design Challenge (booth 5501) brings together some of the best student design talent with store fixture manufacturers and their retail brand clients.

    Clients present real-life design problems to participating students who, in partnership with manufacturers, develop creative solutions. The best designs are chosen by participating companies, built by the manufacturers and displayed within a prominent exhibit at the PAVE booth on the GlobalShop show floor.

    The students who have designed the winning entries will be in Las Vegas to present their work in person.
