• Jennifer Carpenter Architect designed the renovation of the two-story UBIQ Philadelphia footwear and apparel store, located in an historic 1902 townhouse on Walnut Street. JCA sought to create a more lounge-like, luxury environment for the store’s increasingly elevated product assortment.

  • The first floor renovation included, at the front room, a new walnut interior storefront fixture and cladding; black striated glossy wallpaper and new porcelain tile flooring. The grid light fixture is an existing feature from the prior store design. It was relamped with LEDs for energy efficiency.

  • The new cashwrap area features Corian and brass, with powdercoated tone-on-tone white signage.

  • In the rear room, bags are highlighted on bronze blade shelves, each one with its own picture light above.

  • New brass display pedestals creat a dramatic contrast within the historic 1902 townhouse.

  • The second floor fitout is completely new; the space was formerly used only for special events. For this new construction JCA found inspiration in old ivy-league library images; walnut, leather, brass and tweed-like wallcovering and patinated mirrors are used here in a clean, modern way that creates a dynamic contrast with the preserved historic details.

  • Three black fabric gold-lined pendant lights define the central zone, including a lounge area with an inlay ‘rug’ of leather framed in steel. The flooring is knotty walnut, and the fitting room volume is clad in leather.

  • JCA designed the wall fixturing system with a hot-rolled steel frame and walnut shelves with leather insets.

  • The walnut shelves feature leather insets.
