• Renowned interior and furnishings designer Julia Buckingham has opened her first standalone retail shop featuring home furnishings, lighting and collectibles. The store, Modernique, is located inside the restored midcentury modern landmark, Uptown Plaza at the NE corner of Central Avenue and Camelback Road in Phoenix.

  • Modernique showcases Buckingham’s signature interior design style of mixing and matching different genres and eras, allowing customers to create their own personalized yet still pulled-together look.

  • The 1,900-sq.-ft. space is decorated with stylish locally made Tabarka tile, as well as white painted brick walls accented with pops of color from a curated art collection featuring top Chicago and local artists.

  • Working with the Phoenix architect Lance Enyart of LEA Architects, Buckingham will fill the curated space with multiple vignettes that mix and match different styles, periods, color, patterns and textures.

  • The boutique features unique furniture, decorative lighting, textiles, wall coverings, unique accessories and gift items, which are available both to-the-trade and the public.

  • Modernique also offers an extensive selection of Buckingham’s own custom-designed furnishings and accessories, which were previously only available to fellow professional interior designers, architects, retailers and the hospitality trade.
