RDI to Present Mark V. Looper Award at Gala

The Retail Design Institute (RDI) will present the Mark V. Looper Award for Design Collaboration as part of its 2018 Student Design Competition during its 47th annual International Design Awards Gala & Fundraiser on May 23 during New York Market Week. The Institute’s Executive Board approved the designation of the prize to the Student Group winner in memory of Looper, who passed away in August 2017. Looper served as a member of the Institute’s New York Chapter beginning in 1996. A member of the design:retail editorial board, Looper served as group director of store design for Tiffany & Co., and later held leadership roles with Old Navy and Ralph Lauren. At the time of his passing, Looper was director of store design and construction at Payless ShoeSource, and a member of the St. Louis Chapter.

“We’ve added the Mark V. Looper Award for Design Collaboration, because Mark was a champion of collaboration,” said Andrew McQuilkin, chairman of the Student Design Competition. “Mark invited and inspired individuals to work together. So the Institute feels strongly about using this opportunity to recognize those who do at the earliest stages in their design profession.”
