AIA Elects Katelyn Chapin to Become YARD of New England

Katelyn Chapin, an architect with New Haven, Conn.-based firm Svigals + Partners, has been appointed by to serve as the Young Architect Reginal Director (YARD) of New England for the Young Architects Forum—a program launched by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The AIA New England Council elected Chapin to the new role, which will see her gathering insight from peers in the region with three goals in mind—leadership, mentorship and fellowship. She will work closely with regional representative from the AIA College of Fellows and the National Associates Committee, as well as the Emerging Professional Committees of each AIA New England branch.

“I see firsthand interns and recently licensed architects are underrepresented at professional events and industry-related conversations, so I have always encouraged my peers to participate and get involved, locally and nationally,” says Chapin. “The YARD position gives me an opportunity to help emerging professionals have their voices heard.”
