Amazon to Introduce Shipping with Amazon in Los Angeles

Seattle-based ecommerce and tech giant Amazon has revealed plans to launch a new delivery platform for businesses designed to directly compete with United Parcel Service (UPS) and FedEx. Shipping with Amazon, or SWA, will oversee the pickup and delivery of packages from businesses to consumers. Drivers will be sent to retrieve and deliver shipments from warehouses and businesses

According to The Wall Street Journal, SWA is slated for introduction in Los Angeles within the next several weeks with third-party merchants whose products are featured for sale on the Amazon site. SWA stems from a pilot project tested more than a year ago in L.A. The platform also was rolled out and tested in London.

The company anticipates expanding the program into more cities later in the year.
