Sears to Close Last Chicago Store

Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based retailer Sears has confirmed that it will shutter its final store in Chicago this summer. Located in the city’s Portage Park neighborhood, the outpost is expected to close in mid-July, the Chicago Tribune reports. The company debuted its first retail store in the Windy City 93 years ago, and was once the world’s largest retailer. The announcement arrives as part of the company’s restructuring plan, which includes the shutdown of nearly one fifth of its units in the United States.
